for our children—they are so needy, we just meet their needs. Yet, that is not the heart God wants us to have. He desires for us to be willing to serve our children, meaning we surrender our selfish desires to serve their needs.
“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as
overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve.”
I Peter 5:2,3
Don’t let money or what it gets be a distraction from being eager
to serve those God has given you to oversee. It is common to think about getting a job to get ahead financially, or to long for new furniture, yet how often are serving opportunities hoped for? Looked for? Yearned for?
This is a heart matter. Being willing to be used by God to care
for and serve our children is not a given after birth. Just being in the home doesn’t mean we have given our hearts to our children. Having to go to a job doesn’t mean we haven’t given our hearts to our children.
Let us see this wonderful calling as something worth giving ourselves to. Let us serve our families fully, not because we have to, but because we are willing.
