When Todd texted me to let me know this was happening, I quickly drove over to share this first in J.T.’s life. J.T. did very well. Drumming amazes me anyway, but to have my son holding the sticks was thrilling. Being a proud mom I took pictures and savored every note. Yet, there was one thing even more remarkable about the time.
Observing Todd and J.T. from the audience was a wonderful picture of what a father /son relationship should look like. During each song, J.T. watched his father closely and Todd would guide him through the changes and the ending. As Todd played alongside him, he also talked, signaled and tapped to help J.T. in his new journey. If J.T. would have gotten caught up in the crowd, he would have missed his father’s leading. If Todd would have been only concerned with his own performance, J.T. would have been lost. But because J.T. carefully followed his father’s lead and his father willingly lead, together they made beautiful worship music that drew others closer to their Savior.
