Another resource was the readers from Christian Light Publications. They are full of short stories that have strong character themes.
Again, I found mine at sales, but Pathway Reading Series have some great readers too. If you go to their site online, don’t be confused by the other curriculum, it is fine to just order the readers. The nice thing about having it in a curriculum set up is they have broken it down into grade levels for us moms.
All of these resources are “old” stories. I tend to lean toward books written before the mid-1960s. These stories are likely to get the moral across with much less negative than more modern books. (in my opinion) Older stories tend to present the family as an important unit and with the father as the head. We do use modern writings too, but at a garage sale I will often pop open a book to see its copyright before deciding if I want to try it.
