After sharing at the Above Rubies retreat, a mom asked if she
could ask me some questions. As we chatted she started to tell me some of the things she was telling herself. As she talked it was as if God opened her ears to hear the lies she had been believing. She said, “I can’t believe I am saying this.”
She had fallen prey to the common philosophy that it is better to
yell than to discipline. When we talked about correcting our children, she asked, “Do you really talk like that?” What she was referring to was the calm tone I used as I explained how to correct a child.
When a mom sees correction as training, as helping a child learn,
then she can remain calm and love is the motivation. When children are seen as an interruption or too much work, then frustration and irritation is what is communicated.
How rewarding to be part of helping a mom see her high calling as a mother. This young mom went home with greater vision than she came with, thank You Lord!
