It takes fortitude to obey God, yet as Andrea (our youngest) said the day she read Proverbs 13: 24 (He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.) "You always said you were obeying God when you disciplined me but reading this for myself helps me understand that it is true that you are obeying God." Note the second half of the verse states "he who loves him"--do not swallow the ways of our culture, believe God when He says that discipline shows love! "I love you child too much to allow you to follow your own foolishness."
My sister says, "Don't overlook." In other words, deal with misbehavior don't ignore it or just hope it will fix itself. Ecc. 8:11 puts it this way, "When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the heart of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong." This was the verse I wrote in my journal one day last week and during Bible time, I asked my children why they thought I picked that verse. They said "because parents need to train their children swiftly and consistently or the children will keep doing wrong or even try to get away with more questionable behavior."
