Words are powerful; they can tear down or they can build up. Yet, words alone cannot correct a child. Do you doubt me? Read for yourself, Proverbs 29:19 “A servant cannot be corrected by mere words; though he understands, he will not respond.” Okay, so our child is not a servant, but he is under authority and the principle is the same. Too many words and not enough action make for a very miserable home. Prov. 10:19a “When words are many, sin is not absent”. Too many words also bring with them sin. Nagging only proves we’re too lazy to get up. Emotions begin mounting, and emotions are not a good guide by which to parent. This is another time when actions speak louder than words. What we put action to is what our children will take seriously.
