If you are a single mom, my heart goes out to you. Know that God is with you and that life is not easy no matter what state of matrimony you are in. If I could, I would like to suggest seeking out a couple to mentor you. Parenting is difficult and it can be helpful to have someone to bounce things off of. Pick a family you respect and ask if you could meet regularly or just periodically to get their counsel. Allow them to peek into your life and to speak into it as well.
One thing single parents may fall into is only doing what makes sense to them. Being married, I have to honor my husband, at times, by doing things that don’t seem best to me. A silly example is the time my husband asked me to change out the hand towel in the kitchen for a bath towel. His reasoning was the towel is greatly used and thus often hanging there soaked. My reasoning was, it is called a hand towel because it is meant for hands and a bath towel because it is meant for baths. Since no one should be taking a bath in the kitchen, the bath towel was over the top. I did as he asked, feeling slightly embarrassed to have a bath towel hanging in my kitchen…..but, such wisdom has not been seen often. The bath towel is wonderful! It is much more effective and even hangs lower for little hands.
So, the reason for that example is to encourage you single parents to seek advice, but to also be willing to heed wise counsel that may not make sense to you. Just as I have to trust God to lead Todd, you can trust God to lead the couple you have sought for insight.
