As Americans we think our society is going down the tubes and the family is falling apart. I would not dispute this, and pray often that this generation will become serious about seeking and living for God. Yet, after sharing with our European relatives and a new friend I have in Spain, we must also recognize and count our blessings!
My sister-in-law is mocked by her neighbors for trying to have supper at a regular time. They accuse her of wrecking her children by not allowing them to continue their fun. Her sister and mother speak to her regularly about how wrong they are to discipline their children. My Spanish friend says there are no other families to observe and learn from; my sister-in-law agrees. Katerina says it is very hard to understand and apply a book like ESP Character Training, unless you see it, because this is a completely foreign concept in Greece.
Our country may look grim, but we still have many resources to encourage us in God’s plan for our families. Churches are plentiful where the gospel is shared and families strive to honor the Lord. Although, it may not be abundant, we can still find examples to follow and mentors to teach us.
Today is father’s day..start by thanking the leader of your home for paddling up river for your family. Call a mentor and let them know how much they have helped you. Thank the Lord every time He brings a convicting teaching or example across your path. Count your blessings! And if you are stirred to, pray for those across the ocean that are so desperately trying to train their children in the way they should go.
