Our oldest declared amidst a conversation, “I never feel overwhelmed, I don’t really know what that is.”
Can you believe that?! To me that is mind blowing. You see, myself plus our three other children land in the easily overwhelmed category.
Too much on the calendar, a project that takes longer than expected, or an inability to get my feelings communicated cause me to feel like squeezing my head and rocking back and forth. This feeling….it causes me to be “stress paralyzed” as the mom in Mom’s Night Out deems it.
While my husband and eldest can attack a mountain by taking one step at a time or like my husband say, “it is like eating an elephant, one bite at a time”, I fold or even collapse amidst anxiety, stress or anything that feels like too much.
I Peter 5: 7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
This is my way out from under the weight of being overwhelmed. I can cast, throw, get rid of my anxiety, stress, being overwhelmed by giving it to Jesus. Then, knowing He cares for me I can climb any mountain, one step at a time.
So this week, as I start to feel weak in the knees, funny in the tummy and scrambled in the brain because we are still doing school, I need to go shopping for nieces and nephews I don’t see very often and the extended family arrives Friday….I will IMMEDIATELY cast my symptoms of being overwhelmed on the Lord by taking a moment to pray. Then I will trust in the Lord’s caring for me and take my next step.
Knowing me, this will need to be repeated many times this week, because I am weak, but “in my weakness He is strong” when I let Him.
