Why do I want you to speak?....because speaking helps us clarify
what we are thinking. This can be a positive or a negative, let me show you what I mean.
If I am thinking it would be good to drink more water, I may or
may not change my habits. But if I tell you that I am thinking I should drink more water; then I am also likely to tell you why. I have added resolve to change. Now I have thought through this idea enough to have a reason why to change and I have heard myself say it. I am beginning to want to drink more water. Another thing that comes out of speaking to others is a positive peer pressure. I may think I need to drink more water now because I have told others of the benefit.
The same thing happens on the negative side, which is why we need to be careful about speaking negatively. The thought may come in that you do not have enough time to get all your school work done. Now if you start to tell each person you meet how much school you have and how little time you have, you get
more and more upset. As you speak these negative ideas, you are losing time and making them a reality; when if you would have told yourself, I will do my best, keep trying and see what I can get done…you most likely would have gotten all your work done in a timely manner.
So, purpose to speak truth to yourself, by speaking truth to others.
The Bible tells us this too.
Do you want a full understanding of every good thing we have in
Christ?
All of us want this! How do we get it?
Philemon 1: 6 “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.”
In other words: Speak, Speak, Speak
We most often focus on the results of our sharing our faith; thinking we need to see others accept Christ in order for our sharing to have value. Now there is great joy in being part of someone coming to know Christ, but there is also a benefit o sharing our faith that comes to us. As we share our faith we will have full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. WOW!
Come on, you said you wanted full understanding of every good
thing we have in Christ, so let’s do what God tells us to do in order to experience that. Speak, speak, speak about our faith to others. Start with your family, then close friends, next speak to a neighbor or a relative, keep going…knowing as you do you will gain more understanding and you will want to share that also.
What a wonderful cycle to get into: speaking, understanding more and having more to speak about.
Go ahead speak your faith to someone today.
