in, but the need for training lasts a life time.
A friend shared this verse with me this morning, Hebrews 5: 14
“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
Do you see that? We are to be training ourselves.
For example schooling will benefit our children as adults; not only the learning, but the skill of learning to learn. So the benefits of training will not only include the standards learned, but the skill of training one’s self.
Another way of saying it is, our training now will allow our children to be steps ahead in their maturity as adults.
If we desire to be mature, we too need to yield to training. By
"constant use" of God’s solid food. Constant use makes it active, receptive. We are not to be just hearers, but doers of God's word. This is submitting ourselves to His training of filling our minds with Truth. As we desire to distinguish good from evil, this training will give us what we need. This maturity will benefit both our children as we guide them and ourselves as we seek to live a mature Christian life.
