The mom starts: “I’m going to a new church now, I love it! The people are so nice and friendly. It has beautiful prayer and meditation gardens. They are so inviting, you can believe whatever you want and they will accept you. You can believe Jesus is a prophet or that He is the son of God—it doesn’t matter. Your sexuality doesn’t matter either. I haven’t joined yet though, I am still thinking it through.”
Daughter prayed while listening for how to respond. (Lord, help me, give me the words, let me be loving. Please help.)
Daughter’s response: “Well, I think that it is great the people are so friendly and the grounds are so beautiful. I feel like God’s really giving you wisdom to have you think it through, to have discernment, because there needs to be truth and if they are teaching that Jesus can be both a prophet and the Son of God, both cannot be true. Either He is one or the other. I want someone to teach me truth, just as I wouldn’t go to a math class where the instructor told me that 2+2=4 and 2+2 also equals 5, either one is true or the other, it cannot be both.
And as far as them accepting anyone regardless of their sexuality, actually any Christian or church should love the sinner, this is what Jesus does. If we are truly following Jesus, we love the sinner not the sin. We meet the person where they are at. I wouldn’t be allowed in church if that wasn’t true—all our churches would be empty.”
