Merry Christmas!!

It is Christmas afternoon and as I had encouraged others to find a way to invite Jesus into their Christmas celebration--we still searched for how we would accomplilsh that this year.  Our daughter reminded us of our birthday tradition of going around and telling the birthday person what we appreciate and are thankful for about them.  Why not do that for Jesus she asked?  Great idea!!
It was touching to hear each of the four children come up with their own unique aspect of being thankful for Jesus and amazing to be apart as a couple of them even choked up slightly as they shared.  Yes, Jesus is better than any gift under the tree!  We're thankful: He understands us when no one else does, He came for EVERYONE even though many turn their back on Him, that He walked this life an understands what we struggle with, and that He was willing to leave heaven and come to earth in such a humble way as a stinky, noisy stable!  Merry Christmas!

Listen, my son!

Proverbs 4:10-11
"Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.  I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths."

Three times in this chapter it makes it clear that this is a father talking to his son.  Verse 3 says the son is, "still tender and an only child of my mother," this child is young.  I'll guess this child is 2-3 years old since he is the only child and much older than that there would most likely be more children.  Note the parents are teaching, guiding and preparing this child to walk along a straight path.  The verses above (Prov.4:10-11) show the parents are confident in their guidance--they KNOW they can instill wisdom and protection.

Do you KNOW you can instill wisdom and protection in your children?  You can and you must!  God expects us to be speaking to our children and we are to be charging them to listen and to accept what we are saying.  Character training involves a lot of speaking into our children's lives.  Repetition is a key to instilling guidance.  Read Proverbs and note the repetition.  Remind yourself, it is not about how many times a lesson has to be taught--it is about training until the child gets it.

What some people are saying about ESP Character Training

What some moms are saying about this book:

"Thank you so much for this book! Kim is an amazing writer filled with a ton of knowledge. God will definitely bless every person who reads this book. I just read the obedience section and, although I do some of the things, I realized I am not 100 % consistent. I love all the ideas and games to play and am so excited to put it into practice tomorrow." (Sara W)

"I love this book! Thank you so much for letting me know about it! A lot of times I want to do things but I'm not sure of the how and I believe this may be what I was needing! Wahoo! :) Love!" (Heather H)

“I really like your book. It is very practical and has given me a clearer picture of what I'm supposed to be working on with Caleb. Thank you. It came at a critical time, I think, as Caleb is 2 and giving me daily opportunities for character training! It has also been convicting to read, realizing that I'm supposed to be modeling all those character traits” (Lisa J)

This is the true reward, seeing moms inspired to train their children!  God is turning our hearts back to our children and our children's hearts back to their parents.  How exciting to be a part and to hear testimonies of changed families.  We can make such a difference Moms--we just need to trust God means what He says in His word and apply it.

Where's the birthday boy?

Today I spoke to a group of second and third graders about Christmas.  We talked about their birthdays and how they celebrated them.  Then I asked them if they were at the celebration.  Well, of course.  Wouldn't that be silly to have a birthday party and not invite the person having the birthday? Yet, isn't Christmas Jesus birthday?  Do we invite Him?  Amidst all the other holiday traditions is He lost?  Let's commit to making this celebration of Christ's birth (birthday) a mass of Christ! (Christmas)!  Whether we sing Jesus happy birthday or pray before opening gifts, read Luke or sing songs--make Jesus the real reason for celebrating!

The beginning

The purpose of this blog will be to encourage other moms in there high calling as mother.  Not every topic will be character training because there is so much more to training our children than the actual hands on.  God has given many of us passions and mine happens to be three fold: living a life worthy of the bearing the name Christian, being the wife my husband needs and training my children in the way they should go.  I look forward to sharing with you and allowing God to use His words to me to minister to you, at least that is my hope.

My perception of character training can be summed up by the verses in Duet. 6: 6-7 "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."  Moms, let me ask, who is with your child when they sit at home?  How about when they walk along the road?  Is it not you who is there when they lie down and when they get up?  Yes, Mom, we are commissioned and honored to have these times to impress God's wisdom on our children's hearts.  As we train them in their youth they will have the principles they need written on their hearts to draw from in the future.  Yes, our husbands are our head and I don't ever want to encourage you to do anything your husband does not want, but, the reality is much of the day to day lands in our laps.  So be encouraged knowing you are making a difference in your child's heart, one little touch at a time.
