“I agree with this book, it is worth reading.” Why?
“Read this magazine, it is full of good ideas.” Why?
What am I basing “good teaching”, “worth reading”, and “great
ideas” on?
Am I impressed because they line up with God’s Truth or because they line up with my experience?
Luke7: 29 “(All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John. But the Pharisees and experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
God wants our lives to line up to His teaching, NOT to pick teaching that lines up with our lives.
Whether it is theology, marriage or parenting, ask God to show
you in His Word what you believe and why. This is how to have a firm foundation and to not be blown around by every good sounding philosophy that comes along.
