Of course the Lord loves righteousness; but justice too?
Doesn’t that mean that I will get what I deserve? Does justice always include punishment? I think, yes.
Isn’t justice when a sentence is given for a crime? Why does the Lord love justice?
Because the Lord is Just!
The Lord hates sin.
He knows what people need to understand that they have done wrong. He knows we are selfish and can rationalize anything. He knows we can often only see how things affect us. So without punishment we would self-destruct. Punishment gets our attention and helps us take notice of what we have done wrong and awakens us to the need to change.
Why do parents hate justice? Is it because we do not look to the future or lack vision for our role in training our children? I think, yes.
We prioritize momentary joy over long term character. We focus too much on our children liking us and are willing to surrender authority in order to be liked.
Father, as parents of the next generation of leaders we need Your perspective in order to stand firm and to train our children in the way they should go. Strengthen us for the long haul. May we not sacrifice our children’s future for momentary peace; keep our goal ever before us of raising these children to honor You with their lives. Amen.
