While staying at a friend’s house the phrase “responsibility before privilege” was repeated several times a day. The children were age’s ten to five and were learning this concept through repetition. They learned application by seeing how the phrase fit the situation.
Repetition is necessary, repetition is our friend. If at first a child doesn’t seem to understand what you are teaching, don’t panic. Instead look for another opportunity to repeat, and then another. The repetition will do its work if there isn’t a time table put on it. At times learning will happen quickly, other times it may take years. This is about winning our child’s heart, so it is not about when they will get what we are teaching, but about us repeating until they get it!
