Immediately, the niece said, “I won’t spank my children.”
Alright; the aunt still tried to encourage her to teach the children what to do.
The niece answered, “I don’t want to have too many rules, because we know that causes children to be rebellious.”
The aunt tried one more attempt at reasoning with this niece she
loves so much, “What you call rules and see as causing rebellion, is what God calls training which leads to wisdom.”
Yes, I understand how this reasoning is being embraced by those
who do not have God’s Truth to guide their lives, but how has it become so prevalent in the church?
“Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For
what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness, and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12: 7-11
God’s Word is enough, we don’t need to add to it or take away from it.
Duet. 12: 32 “See that you do all I command you; do not add to it
or take away from it.”
Rev. 22: 19 “And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”
God is serious about our honoring Him and His Word!
Beyond not living out of God’s Word, (What are these guidelines
based on?) I do not understand why this loosey goosey philosophy is so popular, I don’t see the fruit. Where are all these pleasant, not rebellious children?
Father, guide us in Your Truth. We are confused; we need a firm
foundation on which to stand. You are that rock. Help us recognize all sinking sand for what it is and to maneuver on firm ground that will hold us up through sunny days and heavy storms. Thank You for Your guidance! Amen.
